Natural Hair and Cultural Appropriation

Recently, I had the honor and pleasure of chatting with my good friend Victoria Davis (of ClassyCurlies.com) on her podcast Curly Conversations. We hadn’t caught up in a while so it was awesome to kick it with her and talk about two of our favorite things; hair and culture.

As a natural-haired gal, I have had so many talks with people about what it is like navigating the professional world with strands that stand out and the experience of having to respond to inquiries that range from curious to highly inappropriate. It was refreshing for me to share those thoughts with someone who understands the #struggle!

We also talked about the beast that is cultural appropriation. And yes, I had lots of thoughts there! All in all, it was a superb time!

Check out the recap here.

  1. Today, I went to the beach with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!
