Variety is the Spice of Life

One of the things I love most about my career is the freedom and opportunity to try my hand at a lot of different things! When I was a youngster (elementary, middle, and high school) I spent time in front of and behind the camera producing segments for my school’s news broadcast.

As I transitioned into college, I decided that my time would be better spent learning the business of media as it seemed to be a more viable career option. It is no secret that the world of broadcast journalism is extremely competitive and admittedly, I didn’t believe that I had what it took to really succeed in the field as an on-air personality.

Fast forward a few years and I find myself not only hosting television segments but also recurring regularly on radio (both traditional and internet platforms).

I am by no means anchor material but I love being able to express myself and represent my publication via several different avenues.

The other day, this thought occurred to me: “stay loose… you never know what the universe has planned.” People often ask me how I ended up where I am and I love to tell them that one day, I showed up to the paper in my waitress uniform and just never left! (looong story that I’ll explain some other time)

While that is true (lol), I also ended up in this position because I stayed positive, consistent, and flexible. I agree that it is important to have a plan for yourself (personal, professional, etc.) but you shouldn’t be so attached to the plan that you become detached from all the possibilities that life has to offer.

This is only the beginning, there is so much more to come!
